SHINNSTON, WV : Multiple vehicle accidents reported as a result of snowfall on Friday, December 30th 2016
Several vehicle accidents occurred as a result of snowfall in North Central West Virginia Friday morning and into the early afternoon, according to authorities.
A multiple-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 in Harrison County near the Marion County line had both northbound lanes closed around noon.
The wreck occurred between the Saltwell Road exit and the county line.
No one was injured.
State Police responded to the scene.
Also on Friday, a wreck on Meadowbrook Road near the FBI complex resulted in an entrapment situation, multiple transports and minor injuries, according to a Harrison County 911 dispatcher.
Bridgeport firefighters, EMS and police, as well as the FBI Police Department and Harrison EMS, responded, said Sgt. J.W. Petroski of the Bridgeport Police Department.
Several other minor traffic slowdowns and fender-benders were reported early Friday afternoon as well.
Across the region, more snowfall will hold off for several days while rain takes over, according to Dylan Cooper, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“For New Year’s Eve, the temperature will reach the upper 40s,” he said. “The first of the year will see rainy weather, followed by unsettled weather throughout next week.”
Even though rain, not snow, will be falling across North Central West Virginia, it is still important to remain cautious when traveling, Cooper added.
The rain is expected to continue through Wednesday.
“This is a typical upslope snow event and cold front,” he said. “As for now, over the weekend and into next week we can expect to see a lot of rain. Late next week we could see light snowfall, but this could change into next week.”
