Josephine County , OR : Passenger Killed and driver arrested after The driver of a vehicle in half and slamming into a tree on Saturday night ,April 18 2015

The driver of a vehicle that split in half after slamming into a tree, killing a passenger, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, intoxicated driving and assaulting a police officer, police said.

Oregon State Police said the crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Saturday off Holland Loop Road near Cave Junction in Josephine County. They said Erric Fisher, 19 of Cave Junction, was driving a 1993 Acura Integra north when the vehicle slid off the road at 9237 Holland Loop Road. The Acura hit a tree that sheared the vehicle in half.

The rear passenger, Austin J. Pedro, 35 of Cave Junction, died at the scene. The front-seat passenger, Cambria River Lin Cook, 22 of Cave Junction, was taken to a local hospital for treat of injuries. Fisher suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police said he resisted arrest and had to be subdued with an electronic device. Fisher was charged with resisting arrest, driving under the influence of intoxicants, manslaughter 1 assault III, reckless driving and assaulting a police officer. He was lodged in Josephine County Jail.

Police are still investigating.
