Rutland , VT : Restaurant owner Seriously injured in Multivehicle Crash after pinned against a telephone pole at intersection of West Street on Monday , March 9th 2015
A Rutland restaurant owner was hospitalized with severe injuries after a crash left him pinned against a telephone pole Monday afternoon.
Rutland City emergency services responded to the crash involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of West Street and Merchants Row.
Stratton Anagnos, who owns The Rutland Restaurant, was waiting on the sidewalk to be picked up, when he was pinned between a car and the pole.
"It's not a protected intersection for pedestrians to begin with. You can still make a turn while the pedestrian signal is lit. So, it's not protected in that sense at all for ways that the intersection stops. But we've had a few incidents lately that are causing us to look into that intersection and see why there are other crashes there," Rutland City Police Lt. Kevin Geno said.
Anagnos' son said his father suffered major injuries to his legs and will be in a wheelchair for a number of months.
Police are still investigating the crash.
