ELKHART, IN : Two motorists suffered non-life-threatening injuries in an accident on April, Tuesday 18th 2017
Two motorists suffered non-life-threatening injuries in an accident that occurred on the Indiana Toll Road around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Indiana State Police.
The accident took place near mile marker 94 in the westbound lane. Police say that traffic in the westbound lane was slowed or stopped as vehicles merged into the right line due to road construction.
A semi-truck with a box trailer and a SUV were nearly stopped in the right lane when a semi-tanker failed to slow down and swerved into the left lane to avoid the crash. The tanker truck sideswiped the rear of the SUV, forcing it into the semi with the box trailer.
The SUV driver, identified as Alissa Cook, 24, was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated. She was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life-threatening injuries. Leroy Carr of Alabama, the driver of the semi-tanker, was transported to Elkhart General Hospital with minor injuries.
George Wagner, 64, of New York, the driver of the semi-truck with the box trailer was not injured.
