Semi Truck Crashes, Overturns and Catches Fire in Columbus Ohio
A semi truck traveling on the eastbound I-70 near downtown Columbus struck a median, rolled-over, setting the cab on firThe accident occurred Monday morning, Aug 13, on the eastbound I-70 at Rt. 315 in Franklinton, closing the eastbound I-70 from Rt. 315 to Front Street.According to Dispatch.com, Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Michael Fowler told the media that two off-duty firefighters driving on the freeway were able to break a window to pull the driver out. The truck driver was treated at the scene.
Fowler also said that a minivan was involved in the crash, shortly before 11 a.m. and that 2 people in the van were taken to Mount Carmel West Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.Because the truck was carrying batteries, a haz-mat crew was called to the scene.
Fowler said he thought the car batteries were transported dry, without battery acid, but the haz-mat crews “are going to come just because of the spill on the freeway of the diesel fuel, and because of concern for what was in the trailer.”
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
