central Kansas, KS : Fiery crash Wednesday on I-70 in central Kansas claims three lives on Interstate 70 in central Kansas on Wednesday, 29th August 2018

Three people from Illinois were killed in a fiery, two-vehicle crash early Wednesday on Interstate 70 in central Kansas, authorities said.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 1 a.m. Wednesda on westbound Interstate 70, a mile east of the K-14 highway junction.

The patrol said the crash occurred when a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was westbound in the right lane of I-70 struck the rear of a trailer being pulled by a 2019 Volvo semi.

After the collision, the pickup truck veered off I-70 and entered the north ditch, where it caught fire. The semi came to rest in the right lane, then moved to avoid the fire.

All three occupants in the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was identified as Reginald A. Miller, 32, of Arthur, Ill.; Darrin W. Stutzman, 20, of Arthur, Ill.; and Matthew Lynn Herschberger, 16, of Arcola, Ill. It was unknown whether any of the pickup truck’s passengers were wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi, Curtis Lee Garrison Jr., 43, of Vaughan, Miss., was reported possibly injured and was transported to Salina Regional Hospital. The patrol said Garrison was wearing a seat belt.

Another occupant of the semi, Cordell Miquel Wilson, 26, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was reported uninjured. The patrol said Wilson was moving from the semi’s sleeper to the front passenger seat when crash occurred.
