POINT PLEASANT, WV : Deputy charged with DUI after crashing car into garage on February, Monday 5th 2018
Point Pleasant, West Virginia
A deputy in West Virginia is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his car into a garage while off-duty.
News outlets cite a criminal complaint that says 35-year-old Mason County Sheriff’s Cpl. Jason Gilley has been charged with aggravated DUI.
The complaint says Gilley refused initial state police requests to take sobriety tests Saturday night, but had “red and glassy eyes” and “appeared unsteady on his feet.” Gilley was then taken to a nearby police department, where a breath test showed his blood alcohol content was .165, more than twice the legal limit.
Sheriff Greg Powers says an internal investigation is under way, and declined requests for comment on Gilley’s employment status.
It’s unclear if Gilley has a lawyer.
