Granite City, IL : Granite City High School student killed in crash on October 6th 2014.
Police say a 26-year-old male is in custody following a hit-and-run that killed a Granite City High School student.
Officials tell the Belleville News Democrat that 16-year-old Daniel Embrey was walking along a road with two friends on Monday night when they were struck by a red car. Embrey was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A coroner's statement says he died because of blunt trauma to the chest.
Police say another one of the teens was airlifted to a St. Louis-area hospital to receive treatment for a non-life-threatening leg injury. The third teenager wasn't harmed in the incident. Neither of their names has been released by police.
A vehicle believed to be the one involved in the hit-and-run was located in Madison on Tuesday. Police haven't released the suspect's name.
