Wake Forest, N.C : 20-year-old man leads police on high-speed chase on Thursday morning, January 29, 2015

Police arrested a 20-year-old man Thursday after a high-speed chase through two counties that caused a concrete truck to overturn on the N.C. 98 Bypass on the south side of Wake Forest.

Investigators charged Skylar Steven Blackley of 108 Grayson Court in Knightdale with speeding, red light violation, driving the wrong way on a dual-lane highway, felony hit-and-run and careless and reckless driving, said Wake Forest town spokesman Bill Crabtree.

The chase began about 10 a.m. when Franklin County sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve Blackley with arrest warrants charging him with violation of five domestic violence protective orders in Wake and Franklin counties, according to Franklin County’s chief deputy, Terry Wright.

Blackley was also charged with resisting a police officer in Durham and driving on a revoked license, Wright said. He is on probation as a result of earlier misdemeanor convictions for assault and damage to property, according to state corrections records.

Police say Blackley fled in a blue 2007 Jeep Cherokee. Franklin County deputies pursued the Jeep into Wake Forest where Wake Forest Police joined the chase.

The Jeep was traveling west on the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/N.C. 98 Bypass when Blackley attempted to elude law officers and he “veered into the eastbound lane and traveled west in the eastbound lane,” Crabtree said.

The concrete truck also was traveling in the eastbound lane and overturned when the driver attempted to avoid colliding head-on with Blackley’s Jeep.

The Jeep continued and finally pulled over back in Franklin County, where sheriff’s deputies arrested Blackley, Crabtree said.

The driver of the concrete truck, whose name was not made public, was transported to WakeMed for observation, Crabtree said.

Authorities closed eastbound N.C. 98 Bypass from Capital Boulevard to South Main Street after the concrete truck overturned near Galaxy Drive. The road re-opened at 11:45 a.m., Crabtree said.
