A 33-year-old Beaumont man was killed Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident about four miles east of Moss Hill on SH 105.
According to Sgt. Stephanie Davis, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Ernest Charles Jr. of Beaumont was driving westbound on SH 105 in a Dodge pickup and towing an empty gooseneck trailer.
"For an unknown reason, the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right. In an attempt to get the vehicle back onto the road, the driver over-corrected, which caused the vehicle to go into a side-skid," said Davis. "The vehicle cross the center dividing line and continued off the roadway. The vehicle rolled over down a small embankment before coming to rest."
The gooseneck trailer came to rest on top of the truck.
Charles was pronounced dead at the scene. It was determined that he was wearing a seat belt.
