Anchorage,AK : A suspect vehicle collided with several other drivers during a high-speed police pursuit on April, sunday 30th 2017
A suspect vehicle collided with several other drivers during a high-speed police pursuit along the Seward Highway on Sunday, according to a woman who witnessed the crash.
Kelly Jeffreys says she was travelling southbound on the highway with her husband in a DOT Ford pickup when an Alaska State Trooper vehicle sped past them and directed them to pull over near Turnagain Pass.
She said the troopers then began to roll out a spike strip across the roadway.
As they were waiting, Jeffreys said they were joined at the side of the road by other travelers. A Dodge Durango parked next to them and another truck towing a trailer pulled up in front of them.
The suspect vehicle, described as an orange Crown Victoria appeared several minutes later. Jeffreys said she thinks the car was going over 100 mph when it ran over the spike strips and spun out of control, slamming into the Durango next to them and hitting guard rails.
The suspect vehicle continued driving after the collision, and made it to the area of the Hope Bridge 20 miles away before authorities caught up with it, Jeffreys said.
While Jeffreys says her truck sustained minimal damage, she said the Durango was totaled from the collision. Jeffreys said she and her family were shaken up by the incident, but did not mention injuries during a phone call with KTUU.
Alaska State Troopers did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Channel 2 on Sunday.
