Canton, NC : One died and sending another to the hospital in collision at I-40 on April 10th, 2016
A vehicle collision shut down a portion of Interstate 40 early Monday morning, killing one person and sending another to the hospital, according to a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper.
A minivan struck a tractor-trailer head-on after the car entered onto I-40 West near Canton traveling in the wrong direction, said Sgt. Tracey Greene with the N.C. Highway Patrol.
“The driver of the vehicle didn’t make it,” he said.
The truck driver was transported to Haywood Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Greene added.
As a result of the collision both vehicles caught fire, according to Greene.
The accident occurred at exit 27 on I-40 westbound at the U.S. 23/74 interchange at 3:11 a.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
N.C. DOT reports that all lanes on the interstate reopened around 6:25 a.m. and traffic was back to normal around 7 a.m.
