London, KY : A two-vehicle crash on April, Monday 24th 2017
A two-vehicle crash early Monday morning sent nine people for medical treatment - three of which are children under age 10 listed in critical condition in a Lexington hospital.
The crash occurred on Ky. 3094 and U.S. 25 around 9 a.m. According to the press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, a burgundy Chevrolet Venture mini-van driven by 29-year-old Teresa Sturgill of Old Hare Road in East Bernstadt was traveling south on U.S. and turned onto Ky. 3094 in front of a northbound gray Toyota Highlander.
The Toyota hit the mini-van in the passenger side, causing critical injuries to three of the five children who range in ages from 16 months to 10 years.
Sturgill, a 16-month-old female and 10-year-old male were taken to Saint Joseph London for treatment of their injuries. A six-year-old female and a four-year-old male were taken to Saint Joseph London for treatment of critical injuries. The six-year-old was flown to UK hospital while the four-year-old was transferred by ambulance. An eight-year-old male was taken to the London-Corbin Airport, then flown to the Lexington hospital. All were listed with critical injuries, according to the press release.
The driver of the Toyota - Rachel O’Neal, 421, of London and her two passengers, an 11-year-old and 14-year-old males, were all taken to Saint Joseph London for moderate injuries.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective/Accident Reconstructionist Chris Edwards is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Brett Reeves, Detective Kyle Gray, Deputy Josh Scott and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo. Also assisting at the scene were members of the London-Laurel Rescue Squad, East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
