OSHKOSH, WI : Ethanol tanker crash closes part of Highway 91 in Oshkosh on Wednesday, 8th May 2024

Some homes were evacuated overnight after an ethanol tanker rolled over in Oshkosh, and a section of Highway 91 was closed Wednesday morning.

Oshkosh police say the rollover was reported at 1:46 a.m. The driver wasn’t hurt, and no other vehicles were involved.

The tanker didn’t appear to leak, but the fire department told us two apartment buildings and a business were evacuated. Police say the evacuations were out of an abundance of caution.

More than 10 hours later, a company was working to drain the ethanol and put the truck back on its wheels. Officials say they had to drain about 8,000 gallons of ethanol from the full container to ensure it was safe to flip the truck back over. Crews had to drill holes in the tanker to be able to pull it upright.
