Rockport, ME : Three people injured in a three-car crash on Route 17 on Thursday afternoon, July 7, 2016

Three people were injured Thursday afternoon in a three-car crash on Route 17.

Susan Crane, 73, of Owls Head was driving east on Route 17 and slowed to make a left turn onto Porter Street when her vehicle was struck from behind by a car driven by David Smith, 71, of Hope, according to Rockport police Chief Randy Gagne. The chief said Smith told police he looked away briefly and when he looked up he did not have time to stop.

The crash pushed Crane’s vehicle into the oncoming lane, where it was struck head-on by a car driven by 66-year-old Angela Lundgren of Hackensack, New Jersey.

Crane was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Her condition was not immediately available. Lundgren and a passenger in her vehicle, Tom Morris, 64, also were taken to Pen Bay for observation, Gagne said Friday.

Smith was examined at the scene by emergency medical personnel but did not require being taken to the hospital.

All three vehicles were destroyed. No charges have been filed. Officer Dana Smith investigated the crash.
