Sacramento, CA : An Oakland man was seriously injured a crash on Highway 253 near Ukiah on Monday, December, 15th 2017

An Oakland man was seriously injured Monday when he was thrown from his vehicle during a crash on Highway 253 near Ukiah, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, the 44-year-old man was driving a 1989 Mazda east on Hwy. 253 at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve near mile marker 15 and lost control of the vehicle around 3:15 p.m. Dec. 18.

After leaving the highway, the vehicle went down the steep embankment, hit a wire fence, flipped over several times and hit a redwood tree before coming to rest on it roof.

At some point, the driver was ejected from the vehicle and landed about 100 feet from it. He was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt.

The driver was treated at the scene by crews from the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority and VeriHealth before being airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital by CalStar. Personnel from the CHP and Caltrans also assisted.
