Seattle, WA : One woman dead and five others injured in three-vehicle crash on I-5 in south Seattle on Wednesday night, April 8, 2015

One woman was killed and several other people were injured in a Wednesday night car crash on I-5 in south Seattle.

The three-car crash happened at roughly 10:45 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-5 near South Rose Street, according to the Washington State Patrol.

It's unclear what led up to the crash, but five people were injured and one woman was killed, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

Several people in one of the cars were briefly trapped inside a vehicle, but medics were able to pull them out and take them to Harborview Medical Center.

One of the drivers, a 25-year-old man, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Seattle Fire Department. Two people were listed in serious condition, and the final two people suffered minor injuries.

The crash caused long traffic backups as WSP troopers investigated and cleared the scene.
