ELKTON, MD : A New York woman was killed and three other people injured on April, Friday 14th 2017
A New York woman was killed and three other people, including a child, were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 on Friday morning, according to Maryland State Police.
MSP officials were withholding the names of the people involved in the fatal traffic accident, as of late Friday morning, pending next-of-kin notifications.
Police reported that a 2004 Saab with a New York license plate was traveling in the southbound lane of I-95 about 6:30 a.m. when it veered off the right side of the highway and passed through a guardrail opening into the grass, before striking a tree and rolling over.
The car caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by one of the responding MSP troopers, police said. Two of the occupants were trapped inside the car for approximately 10 minutes, before emergency workers were able to extricate them, police added.
An MSP helicopter flew a child and a man, both of them North Carolina residents, to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore while an ambulance transported the driver — a New York man — to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, police reported.
The New York woman was pronounced dead at the crash scene, according to police.
An MSP accident reconstruction team conducted an on-scene investigation, police reported.
