Hutchinson, KS : One injured in crash with Rcat bus at 11th and Van Buren on Wednesday morning, August 3, 2016
A woman was injured Wednesday morning after colliding with an Rcat bus at 11th and Van Buren.
The crash with the bus, not carrying any passengers, was reported by Reno County Dispatch at about 7:15 a.m.
For a time, 11th Avenue was closed to traffic at both Jackson and Van Buren streets.
Hutchinson police officer Lance Hirt said the Rcat bus was heading east on 11th when a Buick Regal driven by Judy Van Pelt disobeyed the stop sign at Van Buren and the two vehicles crashed.
Van Pelt was taken by EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She had to be pried out of the car by emergency crews because the doors were wedged shut.
Her condition was not immediately available on Wednesday. She was transferred to Wesley Medical Center, where on Thursday afternoon she was in serious condition.
The guide wire on a light pole was damaged, and the pole was leaning at the intersection. Westar was called in to make repairs. Eleventh Avenue was closed while the vehicles were towed and while the pole was being fixed.
The Rcat driver, Edward Mayberry, had started a 6 a.m. shift and was on his way to pick up a passenger when the collision happened.
