ANTIOCH, CA : 5-year-old girl miraculously unharmed in head-on collision on Thursday, 1st September 2016

A man and woman were injured in a head-on vehicle collision Thursday night but the woman's 5-year-old daughter was unhurt, police said Friday.

Police believe the collision may have resulted from the man having a seizure of some kind.

The collision was reported at 6:02 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of James Donlon Boulevard and Lone Tree Way.

Police said a 24-year-old man driving a Honda Accord was going east on James Donlon Boulevard approaching Lone Tree Way when witnesses reported that he appeared to have a seizure of some kind and lost control of the car.

The car crossed the median, collided with a light pole shearing it from its base before continuing east in the westbound lanes and colliding head-on with another vehicle apparently driven by a 39-year-old woman who had her daughter as a passenger, police said. Police did not say what kind of vehicle the mother and daughter were in.

The man did not appear to be wearing a seat belt and was thrown into the passenger side windshield, police said. He was partially ejected and suffered severe injuries. Several bystanders helped pull him from the vehicle and stayed with him until paramedics arrived. He was taken to John Muir Hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police said the woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital from complaint of pain. The woman's 5-year-old daughter was unhurt, police said.
