Shenandoah, IA : Man killed in Fremont County wreck on Monday afternoon, May 16, 2016

A 20-year-old man due to be married in three days was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash south of Shenandoah in Fremont County.

Kassidie Runyon of Yorktown was pronounced dead at the scene, the Iowa State Patrol said.
Cathy Lesher, 60, of Westboro, Missouri, was injured and taken by ambulance to Shenandoah Medical Center. Her condition was not available Monday evening.

Damien Dawson, who said Runyon was “pretty much like my brother,” said Runyon was going to marry Victoria Sickler on Thursday.

“We grew up together, he was pretty much like my brother,” Dawson said. “He would call my parents mom and dad, and I would call his parents mom and dad.”

Runyon worked for a roofing company, Dawson said, and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and being outside.
The collision was reported at 3:20 p.m.

Runyon had been driving a 2003 Kia Spectra east on 250th Street. He pulled away from a stop sign at the intersection with U.S. Highway 59 and into the path of a southbound 2006 Dodge 1500 pickup, driven by Lesher, the Iowa State Patrol said.

The pickup collided with the driver’s side of the Spectra.
He had not been wearing a seat belt, while Lesher had, the State Patrol said.
