One person died when two vehicles collided on Interstate 880 early Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. in the northbound direction, just south of Industrial Parkway, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said. Details of the crash were not available immediately, but Bartlett said two cars were involved and that a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person's identity was not released.

The crash brought a severe traffic alert that was lifted at just after 4:45 a.m., according to the CHP.
