The 13-year-old girl who was killed when she was hit by a bus while riding her bicycle in Redondo Beach was identified Saturday by authorities.
County coroner’s officials said the girl was Ciara Smith of Redondo Beach. Friends at the scene said the girl was a student at Parras Middle School.
The crash police described as a “tragic accident” occurred at 5:30 p.m. Friday on the northwest corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Knob Hill Avenue, the Redondo Beach Police Department reported.
The girl was riding her bicycle with a friend when, for an unknown reason, she traveled into the roadway on Pacific Coast Highway and was struck by the southbound bus, Redondo Beach police Lt. Shawn Freeman said.
