1 dead motorcycle crash near Encinitas, California

An investigation was under way Tuesday into a traffic accident in Encinitas in which a 57-year-old man riding a Ducati motorcycle erratically died after he broadsided a five-ton commercial truck, authorities said.
The man was speeding, swerving and making sudden lane changes when the accident occurred in the area of Via Cantabria and West Bluff Drive about 11:20 a.m. Monday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Deputy Brenda Sipley. He died at the scene, she said in a statement, adding that no one in the truck was injured.The man's name was withheld pending family notification.
