JACKSONVILLE, FL : A man was killed and a woman seriously injured on Friday, July 7, 2017

A man was killed and a woman seriously injured late Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Dunn Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 62-year-old Jimmie Smith was speeding east from a previous hit-and-run crash when he veered as his Chevrolet Lumina just before 5:30 p.m. as he approached a curve. His car entered the path of a westbound Chevrolet HHR, hit it and then flipped.

Smith was ejected from the car, which landed on him, trooper said. He died at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, 31-year-old Chantell Buxton, suffered serious injuries, according to FHP. She was being treated at UF Health Jacksonville.

The crash blocked all lanes of Dunn Avenue at Mar Vic Lane for several hours.
