Las Cruces, NM : 84-year-old woman killed in a car crash early Thursday morning as Cuca Gilliland of Las Cruces on August 28, 2014

Authorities have identified an 84-year-old woman who died in a car crash last week in Las Cruces. Las Cruces police say Cuca Gilliland died at a hospital shortly after last Thursday night's accident. Police say Gilliland was driving a car that left the Arroyo Plaza parking lot and then apparently tried to make a U-turn. They say her vehicle was struck broadside on the driver's side. The 30-year-old driver of the other vehicle escaped injury. Police say alcohol and speed aren't considered to be contributing factors in the crash and both drivers were believed to be wearing seatbelts. They also say no citation was issued.
