Julington Creek, FL : Creekside student dies in Julington Creek wreck on Sunday, 22nd December, 2019

An 18-year-old died in an early morning wreck Sunday in Julington Creek, and the 16-year-old driver of the vehicle was charged with a DUI.

The driver, Johnathan O’Brien, was charged with a DUI misdemeanor, DUI involving property damage and felony count of DUI leading to the serious bodily injury of another.

Additional charges are pending, a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

The Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle struck a tree at the 1900 block of Bishop Estates Road in Julington Creek about 3 a.m. Sunday. One passenger, Jack Hamilton Wheeler, was ejected from the vehicle and later died.

The report said there were two other passengers in the vehicle. One passenger, a 17-year-old male, sustained minor injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.
