Dekalb County, GA : 4 adults, 2 children injured in 10-vehicle crash on I-285 in DeKalb on Tuesday evening, April 5, 2016

DeKalb police Tuesday evening were trying to figure out what led to a 10-vehicle crash that injured six people and shut down westbound lanes of I-285 for more than two hours.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. near Bouldercrest Road. Four adults and two children were among the injured, according to Channel 2 Action News.

DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution their injuries were minor.

A motorist blocking emergency lanes made it difficult for authorities to get to the scene, he said.

It was 4:33 p.m. when officials reopened the interstate. However, backups remained.

In an alert on its website, the Georgia Department of Transportation advised motorists traveling west from I-20 toward I-75 or south from I-85/US 78 to use alternate routes in order to avoid extreme delays.

“In addition, the incident is also slowing traffic in the eastbound direction, also at Bouldercrest Road [traveling east, towards I-20 from I-75/I-675],” the GDOT said.
