Belleville, IL : Woman killed in crash south of Scott Air Force Base on Thursday morning, March 9, 2017

A woman died in a crash Thursday morning at Carlyle Avenue and Air Mobility Command Drive just south of Scott Air Force Base, according to an Illinois State Police spokesman.

Nicole Miller, 46, of Scott Air Force Base, was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Dean Darnall at 12:38 a.m. Thursday, Darnall said. Miller was traveling south on Air Mobility Drive when she failed to slow down enough to turn onto Carlyle Avenue, Illinois State Police spokesman Calvin Dye Jr. said, citing a preliminary investigation.

Miller was reportedly speeding and was not wearing a seat belt, Dye said. She was thrown from the vehicle, which rolled several times and then landed on her.

Illinois State Police were handling the investigation.
