BARSTOW, CA : Barstow crash kills two on National Trails Highway on Thursday, 27th June 2019

Two people were killed after a car crossed a set of double yellow lines Thursday on National Trails Highway, causing a crash with a motorcycle, authorities said.

A 70-year-old Yermo woman was driving a Nissan Versa eastbound on National Trails Highway near Hodge Road about 11:25 a.m. when, for reasons still under investigation, her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, a California Highway Patrol statement said.

After crossing, the Versa drifted across the lane and into the opposite dirt shoulder before re-entering the westbound lane and into the path of a Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a 50-year-old male from Barstow, the CHP said.

The motorcycle collided with the left side of the Versa, causing both vehicles to travel back across the eastbound lane and off the roadway, the statement said, causing the Nissan to overturn once in the dirt shoulder.

As a result of the crash, the drivers of both the Versa and motorcycle died at the scene, the statement said.

The names of the victims were not available to be released as of Friday morning, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
