A Hillsborough woman sustained life-threatening injuries during a head-on collision along Route 202 near Kimball Road in Hancock on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 12:16 p.m., Vanessa Jarvais, 35, was traveling west in a 2010 Nissan Versa sedan. Griffen Fletcher, 29, of Jaffrey, was traveling east in a 2007 Subaru Legacy station wagon when Jarvais crossed into the other lane and collided with the wagon, according to a press release from the Hancock Police Department.
Jarvais was pinned in her vehicle and had to be extricated. After the collision, she was transported to University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. On Wednesday morning, the center said Jarvais was in the intensive care unit and is listed in critical condition.
Fletcher, who lives in Jaffrey and is a math teacher at ConVal, said he was heading to a Christmas party before the collision occurred. Fletcher said he was singing along to the radio when all of a sudden, in a split second, he was looking at a car heading toward him and thinking, “I’m going to hit that.”
The collision happened and he remembers a jolt, the car spinning, and the airbags going off.
