PANAMA CITY, FL : 1 critically injured in wreck that temporarily shut down northbound U.S. 231 on Friday, 26th April 2019
One person sustained life-threatening injuries in a multi-vehicle wreck on U.S. 231 Friday morning that caused traffic to be rerouted for hours just north of Star Avenue, according to Panama City police.
Authorities were forced to reroute northbound traffic on U.S. 231, temporarily using the southbound lanes for all traffic, while they investigated the wreck that was reported around 9:28 a.m.
Panama City police said “multiple” passenger vehicles and a commercial vehicle were involved and the driver of one of the passenger vehicles suffered the life-threatening injuries. The driver was in critical but stable condition Friday afternoon, police said.
Wreckage was strewn across the highway with at least one vehicle showing heavy damage. In the wreck’s aftermath Panama City police and the Florida Highway Patrol had to temporarily shut down both northbound lanes and reroute traffic. One of the southbound lanes was converted to a temporary northbound lane so that all traffic was using the two southbound lanes while police conducted their investigation and cleaned up the wreckage.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call police at 850-872-3112 or CrimeStoppers at 850-785-TIPS.
