Yazoo County, MS : Woman, grandchildren survive violent crash with school bus on Friday morning, September 19, 2014
A grandmother and her six grandchildren survived a violent collision with a school bus this morning in Yazoo City.
The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 149 and White's Lane Road.
Yazoo County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Joseph Head says Diane May-bey was transported by helicopter to UMC after her SUV flipped on its side.
Head says she and school bus driver, Robert Felton, were headed West on Highway 149. May-bey's vehicle and the bus collided when May-bey went around the bus as it made a left onto White's Lane Road.
Head says the grandmother was stuck in her seatbelt about 30 minutes until emergency crews could get her out.
Chief Deputy Joseph Head says, "Do not pass a bus. I mean pay close attention to school buses even on their stops or whatever, pay more attention to the school buses."
May-bey's grandchildren went to a local hospital with minor injuries. One child was on the school bus.
Charges will not be filed.
