Goliad County, TX : One person dead after semi crashes on U.S. 183 north of Goliad on Thursday night, May 12, 2016
One man was left dead and hundreds of diesel spilled in a late-night crash on U.S. 183 north of Goliad.
In addition to the death, about 700 gallons of diesel were spilled, the majority from the semi's trailer.
Department of Safety spokesman Rubén San Miguel said the tractor- trailer, which was hauling red diesel, ran off the road about 11:32 p.m. Thursday. Troopers responded to the scene at 11:45 p.m.
Both the tractor and trailer landed on the passenger side before becoming detached. The trailer then slammed into the cab's roof and was the likely cause of the driver's death, San Miguel said.
He would not release the identity of the driver as next of kin had not yet been notified. The truck was owned by Sandford Oil.
San Miguel said the reason behind why the driver ran off the road is still under investigation. An autopsy is planned.
