Mesquite, TX :I-15 rollover, early holiday traffic create delays on Thursday, July 2nd 2015
After a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 15 south of Mesquite, traffic agencies have encouraged motorists to take an alternative route on Highway 91 this holiday weekend.Trooper LoyHixson, Nevada Highway Patrol public information officer, said the rollover happened at 9:20 a.m. Thursday at mile marker 108, 15 miles south of Mesquite. The vehicle went into the median and blocked one lane, and Hixson said responders had the scene cleared by 10:40 a.m.Hixson said four people involved were taken to Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite by ambulance.Delays from the accident compounded with early holiday traffic created an 8-mile back-up on I-15 northbound through the Virgin River Gorge, said Sgt. John Bottoms with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.Bottoms said lengthy delays are anticipated the entire weekend, so taking Highway 91 makes the most sense."I'd recommend taking the old highway all the way through the weekend," he said. "Delays will be expected with the holiday."Highway 91 bypasses the gorge entirely. Motorists can access Highway 91 southbound by taking Sunset Boulevard and driving past Santa Clara and Ivins City – to get to the highway northbound to St. George, take the Littlefield exit on I-15.
