Galveston, TX: Man racing along Galveston Seawall charged in deadly accident on Sunday, July 19th 2015
A man who was street racing has been charged after causing a deadly accident along the Galveston Seawall, according to Galveston police.Investigators say Carlos Mendez, 18, was racing two vehicles in the 100 block of Seawall Blvd., known as “Cherry Hill" on Sunday evening. Mendez was traveling eastbound in a Ford F-150 around 6: 35 p.m. when he crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck a Chrysler SUV head-on.The SUV went over the side of the raised road and into the grass below.Officials say the driver of the SUV was taken to John Sealy Hospital, where he is in critical condition. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mendez was also taken to JSER and treated for minor injuries.Police have not released the names of the SUV occupants, but say the two were Wisconsin residents visiting the island for the day.
