A 25-year-old woman from St. John died Saturday morning after injuries suffered in a car crash, according to the Lake County coroner's office.
Caitlyn Amptmeyer was killed after a fatal accident at 109th and Maple Lane in St. John, which is a stretch of U.S. 231 that's lined with strip malls and medical offices, according to a news release from Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey. She was taken to Franciscan Health Crown Point Emergency Room in Crown Point, where she was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m. Saturday.
The Lake County coroner's office ruled the manner of death was a motor vehicle accident and the cause of death is pending. The coroner's office is investigating what injury or injuries Amptemeyer suffered in the crash.
The St. John Fire Department declined to comment, referring questions to the St. John Police Department.
