Grand Haven, MI : Bicyclist injured after being struck by a car in Tallmadge Township on Wednesday afternoon, July 27, 2016

A 20-year-old Marne man was in stable condition after being struck by a car while bicycling on Lake Michigan Drive late Wednesday afternoon.

An ambulance transported Christopher Medendorp to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following the 6 p.m. crash.

Medendorp was not wearing a helmet, said Sgt. J. Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The bicyclist was traveling east against traffic on Lake Michigan Drive near 8th Avenue.

Police said Medendorp did not stop for traffic and was struck by a GMC Terrain, which was turning west onto Lake Michigan Drive with a green light.

The driver of the vehicle, Jeffrey Umlor, 44, of Allendale, was not injured.

Douglas said the crash is still under investigation.
