NEWTOWN, CT : Drivers racing in Newtown cause head on crash on Friday, January 27th 2017
Police are investigating a serious head-on collision along Hungintown Road Friday after two cars were seen racing down the long and winding rural roadway.
Police said several witnesses observed the two cars - a white 1997 BMW and a black 2004 Audi A6 - racing down Huntingtown Road at a high rate of speed at about 7 p.m. on Friday night. Multiple witnesses saw the two cars traveling side by side while racing down the road, police said.
Witnesses also told police that the black Audi A6 was traveling on the wrong side of the road shortly before coming over the crest of a hill smashing head on into another vehicle, police said. Both cars received extensive front-end damage as a result of the crash and three people were tranported to Danbury Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Bailey Prestera, 21, who police said was driving the white BMW, was charged with racing, reckless driving, possession of marijuana and passing in a no passing zone. He was released from custody on a $250 bond and is expected to appear in Superior Court in Danbury for his arraignment on Feb. 14.
Police said the accident remains under investigation and more arrests are expected in the case.
