Sacramento, CA : 2 pedestrians hit and killed by cars in East Bay incidents on Tuesday, February 14th 2017
A pedestrian died after being struck by a car on Interstate 580 in Dublin early Tuesday, one of two pedestrian fatalities in the East Bay in a little over six hours, officials said.
The first death occurred just after 1 a.m., when a red Chevrolet Impala traveling west on the interstate near the Hacienda Drive on-ramp struck the pedestrian, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Sig Alert was issued at 1:18 a.m. advising that one lane was blocked because of the collision and responding emergency vehicles.
The driver of the Impala told officers he was hit in the face by flying glass when his front windshield shattered in the incident, the CHP reported. A tow truck was called to remove the man’s car from the scene.
The names of the driver and pedestrian were not immediately released.A second pedestrian fatality occurred on Boston Road and Hampton Road in San Lorenzo, according to the CHP. When officers arrived at 6:55 a.m., a pedestrian was in the middle of the road.
The pedestrian, whose name was not released, died at the scene. The driver of the car, a Honda Civic, remained at the scene.
