Sudbury, MA : Driver of car dies after crash with Algonquin bus in Boston on Wednesday, April 6, 2016

A Sudbury woman has died from injuries she suffered after a head-on crash with a school bus on Wednesday, authorities said.

Patricia Metz, 73, died at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after the accident around 4 p.m., the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said today.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the Sudbury Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and the district attorney’s office.

Authorities said Metz was driving a Cadillac sedan when she crashed head-on into a school bus on Concord Road. Metz was trapped in her car after the crash and firefighters had to use an extrication device to cut her out of the car.

The bus was carrying 25 members of the Algonquin Regional High School’s girls rugby team. Nine of the players, ages 15 to 18, as well as the bus driver, a 43-year-old Hudson woman, suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Emerson Hospital in Concord to be treated.
