Conyers, GA : Motorcyclist dies in Ga. Highway 20 accident on Monday morning, July 18, 2016

A 70-year-old Conyers man died Monday morning after a pickup truck driven by an 87-year-old man turned in front of him on Ga. Highway 20 at Wilson Road.

According to reports from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, David Hodge was traveling south on a 2012 Triumph motorcycle on Highway 20 about 7:45 a.m. Albert Elijah Swann was traveling north on Highway 20 in a 1988 Chevrolet pickup. Swann attempted to turn left onto Wilson Road and turned into the path of Hodge.

A third vehicle on Wilson Road was attempting to turn left onto Highway 20. When Hodge’s motorcycle collided with Swann’s truck, the truck then hit the third truck. Hodge was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither Swann nor the third driver were injured.

Highway 20 was shut down in both directions for about two hours.

Swann has been charged with homicide by vehicle, second degree - a misdemeanor - and failure to yield the right of way. He turned himself in at the Rockdale County Jail at 7 p.m. Monday and was bonded out at 9 p.m. on a $2,100 bond.
