ELGIN, OK : A Sterling man died in a crash on Thursday, July 13, 2017

A Sterling man died in a crash early Thursday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

John J. Poolaw Jr., 23, died at OU Medical Center from injuries suffered in the crash, troopers said.

About 3:55 a.m., Poolaw was a passenger in a car heading south on a Comanche County road just east of Elgin when the vehicle went out of control and crashed into a creek embankment, according to a patrol report.

The driver of the car, Jordan V. Walking Eagle, 24, of Elgin, was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition, troopers said.

Both were wearing seat belts
