Toney, AL : Tennessee man dies in motorcycle crash on Bethel Road in Limestone County early Tuesday morning, October 18, 2016
A Tennessee man died early this morning when his motorcycle struck and killed a cow on Bethel Road in Limestone County.
Ritchie Michael Boldin, 43, of Ardmore, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash around 1 a.m. near Jade Road, Coroner Mike West said.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma, West said.
"He was apparently heading east on Bethel when he hit a cow that was in the road," West said. "He was ejected and went into a creek."
The cow also did not survive the crash, the coroner said.
The initial call reporting the accident to 911 indicated there was a grass fire. But once emergency crews arrived they found the driver and his motorcycle.
Also found at the scene was a second helmet, which made crews wonder if there might be a second victim.
"There was an extensive search done, and we only found the one victim," West said. "A lot of people carry a second helmet, and I'm confident there was just one person. The family hadn't seen him in a while but as far we know, it was just Boldin on the motorcycle."
Ardmore Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Toone wasn't immediately available for comment.
