Fort Wayne ,IN :Moped rider dies after Dupont crash on Saturday Morning ,July 11th 2015

A man died Saturday morning after a moped crash in northwest Fort Wayne.

The identity of the victim was not yet released Saturday, pending notification of family and official identification by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred about 6 a.m. on West Dupont Road near Oak Trail Road, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department. The intersection is almost one-half mile east of Lima Road.

Police arrived and found the driver of the moped in critical condition. Officers used an automated external defibrillator to give a shock to the man and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, police said.

He was taken to a hospital where he died not long after arrival, according to an update from the police department.

Investigators do not know what caused the man to lose control of the moped. Police said a helmet was found nearby but officers don’t know if the man had it on at the time of the crash.
