The Richland County Coroner says a man riding a bicycle was hit by a car and killed late Tuesday night in Gadsden.
Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as Hillard Smith of Gadsden. Watts said Smith was riding a bicycle in the 2400 block of Congaree Road when he was hit by a 2010 Nissan vehicle just before midnight Tuesday.
Trooper David Jones says Smith was riding his bike southbound in the northbound lane when he was struck. Smith was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Nissan was wearing a seat belt and not injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
