Caribou , ME : One Pregnant woman killed in head-on collision after Her car collided with a vehicle while driver tried to pass an 18-wheeler on Monday morning , March 9th 2015

Police say one of the four people killed in a head-on collision on a highway in northern Maine was pregnant, and the fetus didn't survive, either.

Authorities say the crash happened Monday morning when 38-year-old Kimberly Lausier, of Madawaska, tried to pass an 18-wheeler. Her car collided with a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Bobbi-Jo Johnston, of Fort Fairfield.

Lausier died. State police spokesman Steve McCausland says she was pregnant, though it's not clear how far along she was.

In addition to Lausier, Johnston, her mother and her 2-year-old daughter also died.

The only survivor was Lausier's 53-year-old husband, Robert. He was hospitalized with leg injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The crash occurred on Route 161 about 10 miles from the Canadian border. It is still under investigation.
