Stamford,CT : Stamford man killed in crash on Route 15 on November, Thursday 2nd 2017
A Stamford man is dead after a crash Thursday morning involving a tractor-trailer on the Merritt Parkway, Connecticut State Police said.
Akija Elezaj, 62, was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.
Police said Elezaj was driving behind the tractor-trailer, which was traveling north in the right lane of the Parkway (Route 15), near exit 31 in Greenwich. Tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles are not permitted on the Merritt, which also has overpasses that are too low for tall trucks.
State police said the tractor-trailer started to move into the left lane in an attempt to clear the Stanwich Road overpass. The driver, state police said, stopped just before the overpass and Elezaj crashed into the rear of the truck at around 6 a.m.
Elezaj was taken to Stamford Hospital and pronounced dead by an emergency room physician, state police said. The operator of the tractor-trailer was uninjured. State police said no charges were imediately filed, and that an investigation is ongoing.
