LEESBURG, FL : Umatilla motorcyclist killed in crash on CR 44 on Thursday, 10th November 2016

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when his 2015 Kawasaki was rear-ended on County Road 44, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said John Green, 64, of Umatilla, was riding west on CR 44, in front of a 2015 Acura, driven by Barbara Schmidt, 78, just after 7 p.m.

Green reportedly stopped near Treasure Island Road to make a left turn when the Acura struck him, and he was thrown from the motorcycle.

Green died at the scene. Barbara and passenger Kenneth Schmidt, 79, both of Leesburg, were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
