Tucson, AZ : Officials ID man killed in wreck at Speedway and Interstate 10 on Friday, 17th January, 2020

One person was killed and another was injured early Friday in a crash that closed West Speedway for hours, officials say.

The crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at Speedway and Interstate 10 when a driver speeding away from a state trooper crashed into a power pole, officials say.

The incident started after an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper spotted a wrong-way driver on the frontage road near West Congress Street, DPS spokesman Bart Graves said.

"The trooper was able to intercept and stop the vehicle," Graves said.

The driver then "disregarded the trooper," turned his car around and sped off, Graves said.
